16 Dec Janice Arouh and Nora Zimmett Named in Cablefax’s Most Powerful Women 2021
JANICE AROUH on “Distribution” list
President, Networks Distribution & Marketing, Entertainment Studios – Allen Media Group
Allen Media Group is having a growth spurt, and Arouh is the woman who sets the distribution strategy for its robust portfolio and gets the deals done for Entertainment Studios Networks, The Weather Channel, Local Now, Pattrn, TWC EspaƱol, TheGrio TV and the new Sports.TV, among others. In recent months she’s been building on AMG’s 125% distribution spike in 2020 by launching several ES channels on Xfinity, expanding long-term affiliation agreements for The Weather Channel and forging partnership extensions with Charter and Altice. When it comes to male allyship, Arouh looks no further than her boss, Byron Allen, who she says “has been at the forefront of inclusion and diversity for many years” and “empowers women and promotes a culture of belonging and transparency.”
NORA ZIMMETT on “Content” list
EVP & Chief Content Officer – The Weather Channel
From horrendous storms to climate change, Zimmett works tirelessly to make sure The Weather Channel is telling the full story. With the pandemic, her role pivoted to include maintaining the staff’s safety in the field and at HQ. Recent accomplishments include the launch of the first 24/7 streaming climate change AVOD channel, PATTRN, and a 31& year-over-year jump in time spent viewing the network last year. When it comes to gender bias on TV, Zimmett has seen a new focus on showcasing women of all ages. “There appear to be a lot more opportunities for women in their 40s, 50s and 60s to be the nuanced protagonists, such as in ‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘The Morning Show,’ ‘Schitt’s Creek’ and ‘Ozark,'” she says. “But we aren’t done yet.”
