Janice Arouh Named 2019 Honoree for Cablefax’s Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Cable

Janice Arouh

President, Distribution & Marketing

Entertainment Studios Networks

Entertainment Studios Networks is rounding out another landmark year, and Byron Allen’s right-hand woman Arouh was a strategic juggernaut in securing significant subscriber growth for the company. She not only oversaw the acquisition and integration of The Weather Channel, but landed deals including the launch of Recipe.TV on DISH, and a suite of HD channels on the Verizon Fios platform. The launch of The Weather Channel en Espanol is on her radar for 2020. “The industry needs to make a conscious effort to hire the best person for the position,” she says. “In order to do so, it is an imperative to ensure that the talent pool reflects all genders and ethnicities.”

What specifically does your company do to support and elevate the women who work there?
Inviting our colleagues throughout the ranks to participate in strategic conversations and empowering women are de rigueur at Entertainment Studios and The Weather Channel. Everyone is encouraged to share and socialize their opinions, which ultimately leads to a better desired outcome. Personally, I may be in a meeting with all men. If my boss is in the meeting, Byron Allen will personally reach out and ask me what are my thoughts. He genuinely cares about supporting me, my female counterparts, and believes diversity in voices and storytelling are important to growth and inclusion.

How can the industry do a better job of recruiting women and ensure they have a path to senior positions?
The industry needs to make a conscious effort to hire the best person for the position. In order to do so, it is an imperative to ensure that the talent pool reflects all genders and ethnicities. By default, senior management and the c-suite will be diverse.
